Happy Birthday, CormacMcCarthy! On this day in 1933, Cormac McCarthyà was born. The great American novelistà moved around a lot, and served in the Air Force for four years. After returning to the University of Tennessee in 1957, he was awarded an Ingram-Merrill Award for creative writing. He has published ten novels and has an eleventh on the way. His novelsà are, inà chronologicalà order,à The Orchard Keeper (1965);à Outer Dark (1968);à Child of Godà (1973);à Suttree (1979);à Blood Meridian: Or The Evening Redness in the West (1985);à The Border Trilogy, whichà consists ofà All the Pretty Horses (1992),à The Crossing (1994), andà Cities of the Plainà (1998);à No Country for Old Menà (2005); andà The Road (2006). Aside from novels, McCarthy has produced several other works, including two pieces of short fiction, three screenplays, and two plays.à In 2007, Noà Country for Old Menà was madeà into a movie,à garnering four Academy Awards. McCarthy himself has won numerous awards, including the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction (The Road)à and the US National Book Award (All the Pretty Horses).
